Swatch Peter Special Party

On February 2000 26th the Swatch Store in Utrecht had a party selling their first official special, Peter. You can read more about that special on my page with Swatch specials from the Netherlands. This page here especially shows you more about the party.

I was there before opening time, at 08:45. It was cold outside but it was a lot of fun to see how the city of Utrecht woke up and in the end it was well worth it because I could buy number one! The party started at noon so I had enough time to have a good look around and I was well taken care off. Thanks to Ben and his staff! We had a lot of fun when the sheets with numbers came in from Swatch The Netherlands, just in time but with a small error... For every row of fifty numbers one missed. We had to improvise! Now somewhere there are two boxes with a shorter sticker (I think one is a 48/222 which used to be a 148/222 of another sheet) and also two boxes with a hand written number. That's the only variation we could find. As more people came in food and drink where supplied and had a good time talking to other collectors. Later on Lenie 't-Hart of the Seal Rehabilitation and Research Center in Pieterburen arrived and she signed the boxes before they where sold. Marcel Bierenbroodspot (who designed the box) couldn't make it in time so he arrived in the afternoon and also signed some boxes together with the owner of the Store, Ben de Vries. The boxes that where not reserved in advance where sold out in record time, none of them left after this day. Here are some pictures to give you an impression of how it was:

Some fun just before selling starts. Lenie 't-Hart on the left, me on the right.

This is where I get to buy number one! Lenie signed it differently for me. Ben on the far left, Swatch the Netherlands behind the seal.

She had to do a lot of them!

Look at the crowd. On the right side here it's Marielle trying to hide from the camera. I'll get you next time!

Did you notice Lenie and the Store staff wearing special buttons? Lenie kept hers (only one like that), the staff kept theirs (two kinds of them, one like shown under here and the other like the backside of the box) but in the end two of them where left. They where sold to the highest bidder and I got one of them. Here it is:

I had a great time! Already looking forward to the next special to come out in Utrecht...
